Dr.
Silverman brings over 15 years of experience in
Family Wealth Preservation, Family Business Consultation,
Succession Planning, Corporate and Family Governance
including Boards of Directors, Family Councils and Family
Protocols both nationally and internationally. He has
consulted to family businesses from startup to
multi-nationals, from first through fifth generations, and
from three to over 10,000 employees.
He specializes in working with complex family
systems of over 25 family shareholders, and in integrating
the needs of different generations into clear succession
and governance structures.
He has worked with families in many countries
particularly in Latin America.
For example, in Colombia he consulted to such
companies as El Tiempo and Corona on such issues as
conflict resolution, corporate and family governance, and
development of Family Council.
He has innovated models of bringing three
generations together towards common goals as well as a
Conflict Resolution Models for “warring family
shareholders”.
Dr.
Silverman has published over 30 articles on Succession
Planning, Leadership, Communication and Governance in
Family Business. His
work and expertise as a resource has been featured in
dozens of national and international magazines and
newspapers, such as: Dinero, Nation’s Business, So. Florida CEO, The Miami
Herald, Industrial Distribution, Life Association News,
and many others.
A frequent seminar speaker, he has given over 70
seminars on the topics of Family Business, Emotional
Intelligence, Conflict Resolution, Leadership and Change
Management. He
currently serves as “Professional in Residence” to
Florida International University’s Center for Family
Business. He
is a regular columnist for “Dinero”
magazine, and serves as a Family Business Consultant
to various family
businesses dealing with issues of succession, corporate and
family governance, conflict resolution, as well as developing
family offices and sustaining family wealth.
Dr.
Silverman received his undergraduate degree from Cornell
University's School of Hotel and Restaurant Administration
in 1975, a master’s degree in Family Systems, and his
Ph.D. in Organization Development, specializing in Family
Business, from American Commonwealth University.
He studied with some of the founders of the field
of Organization Development and Family Business
Consultation. He served on the Board of Advisors to the
Association of Organization Development of Latin America,
and as President of the International Organization
Development Association for nine years.
He presented some of the first seminars on Family
Business in Chile, Thailand, Mexico, Colombia and Peru.
